Niyoga Summary

Niyoga is a gripping story of Malar, a Tamil woman, a political refugee who fled Sri Lanka during the civil war. It revolves around a fractured immigrant family, people who left behind, especially a woman, without choice, and without a future. Malar's marriage to Ranjan, a journalist only lasted three days when unknown men abducted him. He joined the ever-growing list of missing persons who voiced for human rights in the country. In fear of their own lives, Malar and family move to Canada and settle in the suburbs of Toronto. The conventional Tamil family values continued and Malar's brother, Jeeva freely went to school, got a degree, found a job in Toronto, and chose to marry the girl he loved. In contrary, Malar was expected to wait for her disappeared husband under the wings of her parents and brother. Two decades pass slowly and Malar lives as a shadow in her own house without a voice of her own. She adores plants and nature and her only happiness in the life is gardening and ...
