Susanna van Biljon Summary
Rebecca Dreyer is a simple woman from a small town in the Karoo. She dreams of leaving the small town, her overshadowing mother and start a professional singing career. One afternoon she decides to leave for Johannesburg to try her luck. Being a small-town girl, she struggles to find an agent to take her in. Rejected, she returns unsuccessful to her mother. Her boss of a small shop tells her of a singing competition hosted by the Huisgenoot magazine. She convinces Rebecca to enter. She surprises everyone and finds an agent. However, he isn't a nice man and gives her a hard time. She has to become who she isn't to fit the ideal image of a singer. She is in a relationship with a sheep farmer, Dirk, who is a widow. She is made to choose either the love of Dirk or her singing career. Faced with this hard decision she has to make, she achieves her dreams nevertheless.
